My favorite person on the whole planet is now in heaven. She's one of the best pieces of my whole life. She gave me my favorite foods, my love of music, my favorite movie. She's a part of so many foundational experiences. I spent many weekends with her and each was special. She'd show me a new movie and make me good food. She was my nursemaid after a gallbladder surgery and helped me through a colonoscopy prep. She had the best garden and could grow just about anything. Going to the gas station meant getting a Snickers Ice Cream bar. Corn dogs were always better with mustard. The Tabernacle choir is literally the best. No matter my mediocre skills, she loved when I sang and played the violin. She learned the play the organ and was confident I could, too. She let me tag along to New York City, too. I can't even name all the wonderful experiences this lady gave me. I literally have the best grandma, ever. She will be so very missed, but I'm so happy she is no longer needs the help when she'd rather take care of herself. Even better, she is reunited with Grandpa and happily doing the work given her. My heart is overflowing with how grateful I am that she was mine.
This was definitely not the trip we wanted to make. I was still really sick and terrified of traveling while so unwell(I'm not contagious, I promise). I promised her many times I would play at her funeral and I had to follow through. Everyone did great on the flight. We lucked out on some non-stop tickets into SLC. I dislike SLC btw. DFW was a breeze compared to SLC. I was still weak from being sick and luckily wheel chairs are just "about". It was pivotal on me conserving my energy for this trip. Embarrassing for sure, but helpful.
My family was so in awe of how much Grayson has grown! They were so excited for him and supportive of him simply being him. He's officially taller than Cal Lee. A long time coming!
My brother got his hands on a kids side by side that his son isn't quite ready to drive. Lyla and Nolan had soo much fun giving it a whirl! Lyla had to be warned many a time to SLOW IT DOWN! Took us three days, but we finally made Grayson give it a whirl. He needs the practice for driving in the next two years anyways!
We found lots of old photos and it was bittersweet to reminisce in the house I love so much. I got the quilt I was promised and we found room in one the carry-on's to get it home. I have what I need. Grateful I don't have to deal with too much who gets what drama.
Saw my dad for a hot minute and was able to get some group photos. He was in the parking lot making sure nobody escaped.
Billy always needed a baby girl. He'd have adopted Lyla by now if we'd let him. The next picture is Huntley Houdini himself. This kid is like a wild baby bear. He goes where the wind takes him, which is grandma's house or outside. He was fun to watch and play with.
Her service was wonderful and I was even more grateful for her in my life!
We took a family pic in front of one of my favorite places, her home. It's going to be sold and I'm sure going to miss it. My first Easter egg hunt was at this house. I learned to drive a four-wheeler there, eat the best garden fresh vegetables and be so very loved! I watched the outside go from blue to tan. I saw the bright yellow carpet in the basement leave and new put in. I remember the porch before the giant room was added. It's seen so many years and memories of my childhood. Definitely the ending of a wonderful era.
Tyler and the kids took a small detour over to Beth's. From what I hear it's a great house to host and raise kids in!
Pretty soon it was time to head home. We stayed right next to the airport the night before our flight. Being as close as possible was a really great idea. I got some sleep on the ride down and found some good Poke for my angry belly! The kids swam in the hotel pool and we met some old friends for dinner
These kids have been such troopers. They've been going non-stop for at least the last two weeks. They were so helpful, good natured and just pushed through. I kinda love them alot.
We arrived home on Mother's Day afteroon. We stopped for some Chili's to-go. Happy Mother's Day to me! Just as we were leaving the airport, everything started getting canceled for incoming weather. I'm so grateful we made it home with out any delays. Just as we got to the car we saw and heard the loudest closest lightening strike, ever. Spooky. So happy to be home! I was kinda sad I couldn't take a plant from the funeral (I have a Peace Lily from grandpas), but soon after getting back home, Tyler's work gifted us one! My heart is happy and I haven't killed it yet.
I can't finish this post without a HUGE shout-out to Tyler. I have been little more than dead-weight for the last two weeks. He booked flights, cooked food, took kids EVERYWHERE, pushed me in a wheel-chair, took my to the doctor and listened to my cry the most tears I've ever cried in my life. I never would have survived without him. His patience and servitude are wonders to be hold. If you see him, he deserves all the good praise.
Until next time....
