May 2023: Traveling and Quigley

The first stop on our road trip was Aunt Tera's house. She lives in Denver and it is about 12hrs away from home. It was the perfect stopping point! They fed us, gave us a WONDERUL place to sleep and let us have lots of fun in the hot tub. The biggest hit was the massage chair they had upstairs. I broke up more than one argument and always found someone enjoying it. The kids quickly fell in love with Aunt Tera and her people. There was so much to explore and they are just kind loving people!

We were able to make a quick pit stop to see Emma's family as well. We miss these people!

We also stopped on our way home at Tera's again. They fed us again and gave a wonderful place to stay! It was so fun when her boys pulled out their flight simulator. We were even able to "fly" over our house here in Texas! They were so patient with all the kids wanting a turn.

Denver is getting a Buc-ee's and it's one of the reasons we may visit again!

Tera also found a way to "donate" some of the less used items in her house. I don't know how we did it but we were able to fit the telescope AND a gain plant from the funeral in that car.. We rented a mini-van for the pace and comfort. It made a huge difference in how well our trip went! Still not sold on owning one, however.

For our road trip we left the dogs with a sitter we found on rover.com. We took them to the sitter the night before we left. The morning we left, when we were about 5 hrs away from home, we learned that he ran away from her home and she was going to start looking for him. She could not find him for the whole 5 days that we were gone. He was spotted a couple times, looking worse for wear, but no one could catch him. We got home at 11:30 at night and took an extra hour to go look for him, with no luck. The next morning, the kids and I spent a few hours looking for him, again not finding him. While we were looking in the areas where he was last seen we found some HUGE fields of more wildflowers. To say our people were very worried and sad is an understatement. He was gone for a total of 6 days. We were starting to worry that we weren't going to find him.
On Tuesday morning after our road trip, Tyler was home from work and had a few hours to look before he went to Nolan's field trip. He found Quigley within 30 mins and he immediately came to Tyler when he recognized him. After a vet visit and some X-rays, we learned that he significantly broke his back leg. The only way to fix it was a $6300 surgery. Thankfully, we learned that Rover.com would reimburse us for this as the accident happened under their care. Everyone is so happy to have him home and he's getting LOTS of extra care and love from us all.
His surgery was quickly scheduled and completed as his case was considered "urgent". He's home and happy, but we are in for 12 weeks of extra special care including being kenneled, on a leash and given a regular dose of meds. We all have a very long journey ahead, but we are glad that our "Quiggles" is back.

We left turtles with a big puck of food and they survived! They are still cute and fun, but they were stinky until Tyler bought a filter. Tyler loves it when they climb on the floats to sunbathe. They are getting less scared of us. Tyler hopes they will eat from his hand one day.

Mother's Day was simple and sweet. I got to chill and eat the foods I most wanted. The kids BEG to find out what they can make me for breakfast. I love that they want to share their love with me.

This post BARELY sums up about 2 weeks of May! There is still so much to share!
Until next time...
