Cancun Part 1

Tyler and I were blessed with the means to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, BIG! We planned a trip to Cancun, Mexico. Mitch and Emily came along with our friends, Sarah and JoBelinda. In short it was amazing! The location, the food! We scored a SCREAMIN' deal at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso. I saw a YouTube video of a couple visiting there. I looked it up and when it was available and affordable, we booked it!
We lucked out on a one way Delta flight and upgraded to 1st class tickets. They were so comfortable! We could lay all the way flat and the tv screens were giant. We rode very comfortably on the 4 hour flight to Mexico.

We rode with JoBelinda and Sarah to the airport. The amount of luggage for 4 people for 6 days felt like a lot. Tyler had one whole empty suitcase, to bring lots of things home.
When we arrived at the airport, I was shocked but the super long lines and how many people could be crammed into one airport room! We quickly found our private transport which took us to our resort. We arrived at the SWANKIEST play I will probably ever stay at! Our private villa had 24 hr room service, all meals included, butler service, 24 hr golf cart transport and a PRIVATE pool! It was nothing short of magical. While we waited for checking we enjoyed our first of MANY tropical drinks; virgin, of course!

We were treated like royalty. No one wanted to tell us no! Our butler made sure to make our anniversary special!

We also did some sight seeing. We rented a car for all 6 of us and drove out to Chichen Itza. I loved it. Tyler will never do the driving ever again. Driving through Mexico was definitely an experience! We only took one wrong turn and saw a lot of REAL villages. I now understand how Alma's people and the armies of the Lamanites were able to get lost and hide in the wilderness. Chichen Itza is so much bigger and so much cooler than you can imagine. The artwork and detail on all the stones is phenomenal. We only look a "little" bit like tourists.

We made sure to stop at a very local stand selling fruit with Tajin and Chamoy. I was the only member of our group unwilling to risk diarrhea. Everyone loved it and no one got diarrhea.

We took one more excursion away from the resort. We visited Cenote Cristalino and Playa Del Carmen. Both were great suggestions by others who visited before. We could have spent all day in the Cenote. It was one of my favorite things we did. It was very hidden away from the highway, I would never have known it was there if not for the signs. The water is VERY clear and VERY cold. The heat of Cancun made the water enjoyable. You could see TONS of fish and we were all treated to a foot fish spa. It was ticklish and weird feeling.

In the city of Playa Del Carmen we shopped, ate and enjoyed the beautiful ocean.

The middle picture below is how you feel after two days of driving in Mexico and walking your feet off. The rest of the week we spent eating and enjoying the AMAZING Grand Paraiso.

Part two is ALL about the food!
Until next time...
